I have heard a lot of people in this forum claim Arvanites and Alvanoi sound the same and that Arvanites must be Albanian because the names sound the same and their languages are somewhat intelligible. BUT, what about Armenians? Their name also sounds like Arvanites and Alvanoi... what are some of the different names that we call Armenians in the Greek language?

The only thing that Arvanit and Albanian have in common with Armenian is that they both are IE languages. Arvaniti and Albanain are not just intelligible but they are one language.
Now days of course Arvaniti languge has changed a lot due to Greek influece.

jonleka Arvanitika and Albanian are two separate languages like Romanian and Aroumanian. If we classify them, in Language Family here are the results !! Arvanitika and Aroumanian ( HELLENIC ) Albanian and Romanian ( L a t i n )

Arvianites were Greek living amongst you...you are new to the area..
I will be saying that till it's imprinted in your small minds.

hahaha mike,
lets dissect your latest gem shall we?
arvanites were greeks amongst you....wouldn't they have been called 'hellenites'? or 'greekanites'
P.S. there is no separate arvanite language, it is an albanian dialect, 100% albanian, i can understand it with the same level of difficulty as the kosovo dialect.

variations of the same word, alban, arban, arvan, these consonants have been interchangable over time in our language.... it is how greeks referred to these distinguishable peoples, why didn't the greeks refer to them as greeks if they were such? and why do they speak albanian?

you would have difficulty with just byzantine greek let alone 34 centuries ago After 1830's,there was a big push to classical Attic Greek lingo and still not as pure .....let alone the differ dialects the fyromanians could restructure their slavic language to Homeric lingo within 45 days and then 45 months later beat you at your game ;D

Every Greek thats educated in Greek schools can read ancient Greek.... and he is called a Greek.... and lives on the same soil his forefathers lived.... about the only people in the Balkans that don't live on their own soil are Albanians,Turks and Gysies... you know that very well...
The Fyromians are just that... so are you ...insignificant... doesn't really matter what you think.Sayonara.... same story over and over again...call me when you find your history... help me shift that date ..

Greek Arvanites came from Arvanon of modern Albanian, which in fact is Albanized Greek territory and composed mostly of north Epirotic Greek populations. The Albanians just Albanized this territory and forced the population to speak Albanian. So the Arvanites just were(before the Hellenization) Albanized Greeks or Albanized Greco-Albanians(mixed). Anyway, right now they are 100% Hellenes racially so stop dreaming of them as Albanians.
