Thesseloniki is on the North side and Ataturk was born there
Most of the Mosques there were old Byzantine Churches most of Anatolia has Greek Hittie and Armenian settlers the Kurds are to the South. He says Constantinople because that's it's offical name because the Greeks got there before the Turks a Turk is just a Greek or partly Greek Muslim. It makes total sense why the Turks would go to the Southern part of the Balkans it totally re-writes history

When I was in the Polis I didnt see one person who looked Greek....most Turks are descendants of native Anatolians (not Greek)...some have central asian features at that...

Explain Central Asian features? Central Asians are Circassians Circassians are Caucasian some are Mong but most are Caucasian other than that you mean Caucasus people like Georgians Armenians and Azerbaijanis well I think out of the three Georgians then Azerbaijanis could we all know about Armenia and their noses and whining Anatolians are partly Greek Yoruks are a tribe that's nomadic between Asia Minor and South Eastern Europe Thrace which is the border between Greece and Bulgaria.

It is not ''most typical'' for Anatolians to have a Central Asian admixture since I have known Alevis without that admixture so has my mother and even if they did it's meant to be only 1/8 which is really too minimal to call them undoubtly Asian

Oh yes it was great...I just missed the Greek element...it does not exist actually anymore...the only place I heard people talking in Greek was in the Patriarxeio (Fener Rum Patrikhanesi ). Shame on your people desire...the Kurds can hardly replace us...you will realize that sooner or later...if you havent done already..

@ missanthropology what I wanted to say is that the people there do not look Greek...no familiar faces....they look like there are not from these regions (Thrace, Europe) but immigrated there..

Next time you go... definitely hit the Islands.. the more cultured people live there. Loads of Greeks. Also in the Taksim Pasaj, you may be able to find little tavernas where the Istanbul Greeks go to have a drink.. I went 3 years ago.. met some cool greeks and armenians.. check them also. Stay away from crappy tourist places.
You won't see many "ethnic" Turks in Istanbul... since it is center of immigration and there is a MASSIVE influx of people from the East. The same goes for the holiday towns...
The best place to see Turks would be around central Turkey.

Kastor, if you wanna see some ethnic greeks next time you come to Polis, definitely go to Nevizade Street in Beyoğlu (Pera). There is a real greek taberna called "Imroz (imbros)". It is run by a phanariot family and the owner's name is yorgo.

Sounds classier.

The Kurds are a special case. The Turks are afraid of them... because they know they are wild animals... The Kurds have always been used by the Turks as human weapons against their Christians minorities.....one day they will turn against the Turks themselves...thats what happens if you play with fire. The Kurds are not our brothers...but one day they could become precious allies...and force the Turks to fight a two-front-war...its not that I want war...but you never know what can come...Turkey's new foreign policy is pretty aggressive and bigheaded...the Aegean sea could contain a new old trouble spot. Its all about oil...and we can see already now what the Turks are trying to do with Cyprus...not "allowing" them to search for oil within their own territories...
