The trouth is... Turkey CANNOT join EU... and Turks of the deep state like Jannisary or the ones visiting that forum knows that and that is why they opposse EU.
More analyticaly.... EU wants reforms. One of these reforms and the most important one is the freedom of speech and self-determination. Turkey consists from people from 1000 nationalities. It is obvious if you visit especially western Turkey. There are Greeks, Serbs, Albanians, Bulgarians, Kirgisians, Kurds etc etc. and the common ground among them is the obligatory Tourkish language and religion. That is what Turkey is based on. An obligation saying "I'm happy I'm a Turk".
In case Turkey joins EU, automatically we'll have new radio-tv stations, newspapers, cultural clubs and other stuff searching for roots outside the "happiness of being Turk". Sooner of later, all these people will start to adopt their heritage and feel something different from what they forced to feel today. ....and that will be the end of the artificial Turkish "nation".
Now... the deep state.. including people who belong to the upper economic class in Turkey... know all that staff. They know that if they enter EU, all their privileges will be lost. So, they try to promote through media the non-EU idea. Most propably they will suceed and that is why Turkey cannot and will not join EU.
Its a matter of interests... and todays Turkey have not interests in following those reforms.

Basil, I never envisaged myself as one European. I am a leftist person, and I do not like my country to be a part of some counterfeit democracies blended with backward regionalism. Do you really believe in what you say? Recently, the Italian Government had been deporting their fellow Romanian citizens in masses whilst your government had been torturing and killing tens of refugees captured in the Aegean Sea. In the meantime, the Spanish had been arresting all members of the Basque party in Spain whilst the French Foreign Minister has been advocating the nuclear destruction of Iran. Similarly, it was revealed that the British soldiers got involved in serious human right violations in Iraq, and ironically, it was Russia who decided to establish an institution to track down the human rights violations by the European States. Yeah, there are 3000 Greeks. I am not sure about the rest. Do not mix Turkey with Greece. Even your prime minister is an ethnic Turk. The problem stems from the fact that the EU does not offer any privileges to any Turkish citizen. Yeah, 74 % of the Turkish population does not support the EU. Within a decade, supporting the EU membership might be quite radical political perception. ;D

Sooner of later, all these people will start to adopt their heritage and feel something different from what they forced to feel today. ....and that will be the end of the artificial Turkish "nation". ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ All minorities or emigres from the Balkans/the Caucasus or whatever you want to call them have, in the main, been integrated into Turkish society under the melting pot, upper identity of Turkishness. Take the members of Illyria forum as an example; Desire has a Turkish Cypriot parent (or grand parent?), PaxOttomana has a Bosniak grandma, I have partial Albanian and Caucasian ancestry, some of Jannissary's ancestors have emigrated from the Caucasus, while Yahadj and Atatürkcü are Turks from Bulgaria. Guess what binds us all together despite our different backgrounds? The love of our country and our nation; our passion to make our country a better place. People like us are the most patriotic citizens to be found in this country, more patriotic than an average Anatolian Turk. So, if you are waiting for them and me and tens of millions of Turks with origins from outside Anatolia to start and uprising against the ''evil'', ''oppressive'' Turkish state, then you'll have to wait for a long time. We are happy to be Turks; we are proud to be Turks. As for Greeks; there are seveal thousand of them left. Armenians; 200 k including the illegals and the crypto Armenians; a very trivial number in a population of 73 million. There are no Serbs in Turkey. Whether you like it not, they are Turks with Bosniak roots. Call them a Serb and those words will be the last words to leave your mouth. Get that through your thick skull. Kurds; only 1/3 vote for secessionism, while the rest are loyal citizens of Turkey. We consider them our brothers. The animosity that can be found between Serbs and Albanians doesn't exist between Turks and Kurds despite more than two decades of PKK terrorism.

Here is a more serious problem for you, basilica: ‘Time bomb.’ Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis described yesterday the large number of illegal immigrants in the capital as a “time bomb that will erupt” after meeting with Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis on the issue. The mayor said that there needed to be joint plans between countries such as Greece, Italy and Spain in order to better handle the problem. www.ekathimerini.com/4dcgi/_w_articles_politics_100016_08/11/2007_89835

Turkey helping to revitalize a diminishing Greek population: A Turkish-flagged vessel, transporting 275 illegal Iraqi immigrants, was towed to safety in a port in the Peloponnese yesterday after foundering in rough seas on Saturday night. Authorities said the captain of the Aktag motor ship, which was bound for Italy after leaving Turkey, sent out a call for help late on Saturday after experiencing engine failure about 11 miles off Katakola. The 12 crew members and the ship’s captain were all Turkish nationals. Small coast guard vessels could not immediately respond because of winds of up to 100 kilometers an hour and rough seas. Yesterday a larger Greek ship towed the vessel to Katakola and the illegal immigrants, including women and children, were taken for health checks. Sources said that 12 of the children were hospitalized with signs of dehydration and hypothermia. www.ekathimerini.com/4dcgi/_w_articles_politics_100016_12/11/2007_89967

Thanks Boni. I am fine. ;D The job that I coveted so much turned out to be a miserable experience for me. Glad that I got out of that hellhole. ;D Being back at the university is fine. The chicks here are fine. After attending a faculty where the boy-girl ratio was 6 to 1 (the 1 being girls with moustaches), being outnumbered 2 to 3 is like heaven on Earth.

Look who's talking? People without identity, people without a future, people without Honor, people who are ready to give their mothers and sisters to any foreign soldier only to escape the reality, to the unknown future. These are the sips of Kosovo and Metohija, these are the bro and sis of Viktror the dardhadhanian, living the past but, dares and speaks for the EU as if Kosmet was the ruler of it. The parasite of the balkans, dares and points rules and raises the voice to the turks Do not bite the hand that feeds you siptare, jebo ti kurac, jebo. you are thousands of years of light behind Turkey and the balkans Viktor, your herd needs time to develop and reach the mankind. Siptarski govno.

Illyrians vs. Ottomans I do know well, when the both of them excisted, the sips of Kosmet were monkeys living upon the trees.
When the slavic culture flourished in Kosmet, sips lived in caves. Illyrians???; you are a siptar Viki, do not speak about my roots, do not speak as if you were albanian, when you are not.
You have no identity, you are an untamed tribe, living under the KFOR boots.
