Ivanovic withdraws from Tennis
(BEIJING, August 10) -- Top seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia has withdrawn from Women's Tennis at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games with a right thumb injury.
"I've been struggling with it. For the past month I've been receiving so much treatment and I've been doing everything to recover after Montreal where I really wasn't able to play. After there it was so painful. I took some time off and haven't played a tournament in 10 days. Even yesterday we flew a doctor in from Australia to help with my hand. I've had really great doctors and we've tried all kind of treatments. It's just nothing could get my hand back to be ready to play and it was one of the hardest decisions," said Ivanovic in explanation.
"It's one of the hardest moments in my career. I've tried to recover and play but it was just impossible. This kind of injury takes time and that's what I just didn't have enough of. I'm very disappointed but I'm young and will have another chance," she added hopefully.
Women's Tennis is set to resume on Monday, August 11, after several matches were postponed by rain.

So much for football and women's tennis. Jankovic is probably gonna withdraw too. We had a great chance for 3 medal there. You can't do anything about injuries, but I am super pissed about clubs not being willing to release our best players for football. We were finalists in Europe, it is just not fair.

Serbia outclass Algeria in Women's Volleyball Updated: 2008-08-11 13:39:18 (BEIJING, August 11) -- Serbia maintained their perfect record in pool B of the Women's Volleyball tournament with an easy straight-sets win over Algeria (25-14, 25-13, 25-13) at the BIT Gymnasium on Monday, August 11.
Serbia raced into a 5-0 lead in the first set, powering through Algeria's defense with a series of incisive attacks from both sides of the court. Serbia then controlled the match, focusing attacks into the mid-court space left by Algeria. They clinched the set 25-14 after a miscommunication on the Algerian side.
The taller Serbians also dominated the second set, helped by strong spiking and blocking from Jelena Nikolic, Natasa Krsmanovic and Maja Ognjenovic.
Algeria tried to mount a third set comeback with solid attacking play from Faiza Tsabet and Lydia Oulmou, tying the set at 8-8, but the Algerians failed to seize the opportunity and quickly lost more points -- and their fighting spirit.
Serbia wrapped up the victory with a quick spike from Jovana Brakocevic from the right side of the court. The top match scorer was Ivana Djerisilo, with 13 points.
The top four teams in each pool at the end of the preliminary round will move onto the quarterfinals. After two straight-set losses in pool B, Algeria's chances of advancing are slim.
