Yeh 1 nano second oh well silvers still good. Nadal ousts Djokovic in bid for goldRafael Nadal of Spain defeated Novak Djokovic of Serbia in a thrilling 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 Men's semifinal on Friday evening at the Olympic Green Tennis Center to become just the third Spanish player in Olympic history to reach the final of the Men's Singles competition. He will face Fernando Gonzalez of Chile, with whom he has a 3-3 head-to-head record, on Sunday, August 17, in the Men's Singles final. Nadal booked his place in the final on his second match point, when Djokovic sent an overhead smash mere inches wide of the sideline. The match had all the drama of*grand Slam final as both players matched each other for precision and pride in a tense bid for an Olympic medal. The two Grand Slam champions -- Nadal has five titles, Djokovic won his first at the Australian Open in January -- played awe-inspiring Tennis in the third set, both of them visibly anguished as points were decided more on frustrating mistakes than by one player controlling play. Djokovic, seeded third, challenges No. 8 seed James Blake of the United States on Saturday, August 16, in the Men's bronze medal play-off. Nadal, meanwhile, is bidding to give Spain its first ever gold medal in Olympic Tennis history. ----- Jankovic lost in the quater final match against Safina. Djokovic should win the bronze

B92 News Society Society Phelps denies Èaviæ in photo finish 16 August 2008 | 09:23 | Source: B92 BEIJING -- Milorad Èaviæ came within a fingernail of upsetting Michael Phelps' hopes of winning a record 8 golds at the Olympics. Ultimately, he had to be content with silver in the 100m butterfly final, finishing just one one-hundredth of a second behind Phelps, who thus equalled Mark Spitz’s gold medal haul of seven set at the Munich Olympics in 1972. Having defeated the U.S. swimming sensation in an earlier heat, setting a new Olympic record in the process, there was justified hope that the Los Angeles-based Serb could upset the form book. And it was Èaviæ who made the better start, establishing a half-length lead over Phelps at the turn. Indeed, at that stage of the race, the bigger threat seemed to come from Phelp’s fellow American Ryan Crocker. However, as Phelps has proven on a number of occasions at these Olympics already, he should never be written off, and he gradually began reeling Èaviæ in over the closing stretch. As Crocker tailed off, eventually finishing outside the medals, there was nothing to separate Phelps and Èaviæ. And, although TV replays after the race appeared to show the Èaviæ with the edge, it was nonetheless the American that got the final touch to secure his seventh Olympic gold medal at these games and his twelfth overall. Despite coming so close, Èaviæ remained upbeat afterwards: “I’m totally satisfied with second place. One day, I’ll probably regret that I didn’t finish better... I think I could beat him if I had another chance. I guess I’ll have it next year at the world championships." ;D

Serbia enters quarterfinal in fourth place after loss to Russia in womens Volleyball
Russia overwhelmed Serbia 25-21, 25-16, 25-20 in the last match of the preliminary round of the Women's Volleyball tournament, forcing the Serbian team to face pool A winner Cuba in the quarterfinals. Russia has finished third in the pool -- a draw will determine whether they play China or the United States in their first match of the elimination round.
The victory ensures Russia's third place in pool B. This means they will not clash with Cuba in the next round of competition.
Serbia kicked off the first set laden with the same technical errors that saw them lose to Italy in straight sets on Friday.
Serbia's weak defense was hindered further by a three-man block that was ineffective as their Russian counterparts towered over them at the net.
Serbia tried to make up for the lack of height and accuracy as libero Suzana Cebic and Jovana Vesovic of Serbia came together to save unreachable sideline attacks, closing the gap. But Serbia still lost the set 25-21.
Outside hitter Ekaterina Gamova and Liubov Shashkova of Russia formed the driving force behind Russia's offense, with the 2.02m tall Gamova topping the scoreboard in the first set with seven points.
In the second set, Serbia fail to make the necessary player adjustments and Russia forged ahead to take the set 25-16.
As the match closed in on Serbia, coach Zoran Terzic of Serbia substituted in for Sanja Malagurski in an attempt to revive an attack, but with little impact.
Jovana Brakocevic of Serbia was the top scorer of the match, converting 16 of 43 attacking attempts.

Volleyball Men's Preliminary - Pool B Match 28 Egypt vs Serbia 0-3
Serbia sweeps aside Egypt to move into quarterfinals
Serbia easily defeated Egypt 25-16, 25-13, 25-17 to pass Germany in the pool B standings of Men's Volleyball and clinch a quarterfinal spot on the last day of the preliminary round. As the lowest-ranked quarterfinal qualifier in the pool, Serbia will have to face the top-ranked team in pool A in the first match of the elimination round.
Ivan Miljkovic was the key man in attack, as the Serbian team outclassed their opponents from the start. They scored five points from blocks in a first set sealed by a Mahmoud Abd El Kader service error.
Miljkovic continued to find holes in the Egyptian defense, ably supported by Dejan Bojovic and Milos Nikic of Serbia. The Balkan side established a two-set lead after Bojovic blocked Mohamed Gabal of Egypt.
Gabal led the way as Egypt rallied to make a contest of the third set, but with 13-point Bojovic in sparkling form the Serbs were not to be denied and a service error from Gabal at match point brought the end for the north Africans.
Egypt leaves the tournament having lost all of its five matches in straight sets. Egypt qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games by winning the Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament in South Africa in February 2008. They prevailed in a thrilling five-set victory against Algeria. The 2008 campaign was Egypt's third Olympic appearance after finishing tenth in 1984 in Los Angeles and eleventh in 2000 in Sydney.
Egypt has won the African Championships four times, celebrating back-to-back victories in 2005 and 2007.

^^^ Latest news coming from Beijing is that Serbia lost on purpose. The Croatian coach has been quoted saying such and asking FINA to investigate. The reason being? If Serbia had won, they would have Vsed Montenegro (European Champions) in the quarters and then followed that up with a semi against Hungary (Olympic champions) who qualified automaticcaly for the Semi finals cos they finished first in thier group. But guess who qualified automatically in first place from our group? The USA.............which means Serbias opponenent in the 1/4 will be Spain, and then if we win, we will vs America in the Semis. What do youse thing? Was this unsportmen like? Or just pure brilliance? Weve managed to avoid Croatia, Hungary and Montenegro until at least the final...... sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/olympics/wires/08/18/2080.ap.as.oly.wpo.water.polo/

That doesn't make any sense. United States would have to beat Germany, and they were playing after us. If the Germans won, we would've faced Montenegro in the quarters.
I am happy with the draw we got, but you're playing with fire if you're losing on purpose. Spain is a good side, they defeated both Montenegro and Greece. We will have our hands full with them.
