It seems this 'true brother' of yours doesn't speak Macedonian. Although, it looks like he speaks both standartized varients of Bulgarian. May be someone can clarify this.

Guys thanks for the link (Pyrro) and the explainations.
Asen, just as you guys strongly feel that the overwhelming populace in Macedonia is Bulgarian, the Serbs also feel that their number is very much underestimated in the census. This is mostly due to social factors and pressure from circles to be only 'Macedonian'. The of Serbs there is somewhere between 2-350,000 min, but no more than 1/2 million.
There should be 'some sort of effort' on organizations in Macedonia to assist people in declaring their 'true' ethnicity w/out any backlash.
I've met many Macedonians from the north of the country who admit their Serb roots but emphasis it was so long ago that it doesn't matter anymore; hence why they conveniently declare as Macedonian.
I enjoyed reading Vasko articles on Serb presence in Vardar during the middle ages. Facts are facts, there were self declared Serbs in the region during the 14th & 15th centuries.

Ljubotan bro, Novi has come up with results from certain past surveys, village by village, dwelling by dwelling. You may contact him.

Which census precisely? The last one I read stated there are about 1500 Bulgarians in fyrom. That's cool, of course, I guess if there was a way to enter a minus figure about Bulgarians, the fyromian government would gladly fill it in.

We've seen it Pyrro, the ones who stuck with the Patriarchate managed to survive this Bulgarisation but the ones who gave themselves up to the Exarchate under went Bulgarisation. I've posted surveys, petitions and even the most obivious topoymns from the region. Those 350,000 which Ljubo refers to as having some sort of serbian consciousness are most likely the ones who's ancestors of the 19th century remained with the Patriarchate, however those who refer to themselves as *Macedonians* or even *Bulgarians* are those who's ancestors switched over from the Patriarchate to the Bulgarian Exarchate.

^ Retards are blinded by bulgarian propaganda, l'm not, thank god. The edict establishing the Exarchate opened up considerable opportunities for spreading Bulgarian influence in all the Serbian lands under Turkish rule. Under the pretext (EXCUSE) of introducing Church services read in Slav and liberating the people from the authority of the Greek bishops , there began a bitter struggle for the BULGARISATION of areas that had NEVER BEEN BULGARIAN. Those who declared themselves for the Exarchate were Bulgars, those who acknowledged the Patriarchate were Serbs. It was scarcely possible at that time to trace any linguistic borderline. Bulgarian agents, many of WHOM WERE FROM MACEDONIA AND HAD BEEN CONVERTED TO THE BULGARIAN CAUSE, INUNDATED THE WHOLE OF MACEDONIA AND, UNDER THE AEGIS OF THE EXARCHATE, ENGAGED IN THE WORK OF BRINGING THE PEOPLE OVER TO THEIR SIDE. - Gilber in der Maur, Die Jugoslawen einst und jetzt, Leipzig, Vienna, 1936, pg.237

Serbs are linked with Avars, they settled in Avars lands. Its a fact. But it doesnt concern you. In your grandpas village there were only Bulgarians.
