There were some fighters who were of arvanite origin (Botsaris, Bouboulina, Tsavellas) but surely not all and surely not most of them (Kolokotronis, Diakos, Karaiskakis, Androutsos were not of arvanite stock).
Dont listen to rex...he is clueless...
All those people felt Greek and fought for an independent Greek state (and not for "some" free state thats simply not right). All of them belonged to the Filiki Etaireia whose clear aim was to form a free Greek national state).
The arvanitophone Greeks did feel Greek, they didnt feel "albanian" or sth...the albanian nation and national consciousness was formed much later...being Greek orthodox meant simply being Greek. the Arvanites of Peloponnese had with the grecophone people much more in common than with the muslims of todays albania or Epirus...

Hm...no. There are too many cultural differences by now....his ancestors were "traitors"...surely he could convert to Christianity and thus make an important step...but never could he erase his family's history...he cant become an "ordinary" Greek. And if he stayed a muslim...a fortiori. Its an illusion to believe that modern Greekness is a flexible term like Americanism for example. A muslim would never be accepted by society as a standard Greek. Citizenship is another case again...

The French will support us as always. No, seriously, I didnt say I want Greece to start a war against Turkey, Im against a war against anyone...there shouldnt die any Greeks out there for a war.
but as for Turkey...Im very excitedly observing their foreign policy and I think if they go on like that (and the AKP will stay in power at least for the next 10 years, I dont see how Erdogan could lose his popularity) Turkey will start to form a counterpole to the western world. What we now need is a strong self-confident Turkey...and let them head straight into disaster...Im just interested in this country's destruction, Im against this country, too much have they harmed my nation in history...they must pay one day. Lets wait and see..

dont underestimate the Greek army. I see Turkey in future getting stronger and stronger, gaining more and more self-confidence and seing itself as a leader of the arab countries....they could form sth like an alliance...Europe and Russia will not like that...and Israel (thus the USA) either..

I dont want us to dirty our hands in a war against Turkey again...we will just watch you being bashed by the others... you do definitely deserve it.^^
The Kurds? They will side with their fellow countrymen in case of a war...no Erdogan no AKP can avert that...blood is thicker than water.

The Kurds are a special case. The Turks are afraid of them... because they know they are wild animals... The Kurds have always been used by the Turks as human weapons against their Christians minorities.....one day they will turn against the Turks themselves...thats what happens if you play with fire. The Kurds are not our brothers...but one day they could become precious allies...and force the Turks to fight a two-front-war...its not that I want war...but you never know what can come...Turkey's new foreign policy is pretty aggressive and bigheaded...the Aegean sea could contain a new old trouble spot. Its all about oil...and we can see already now what the Turks are trying to do with Cyprus...not "allowing" them to search for oil within their own territories...

Kasto, didn't you visit the Princes Island? there are Greek speakers there. I know a couple of ethnic Greek Turks... however they are in Izmir and Istanbul... you should have let me know, i would have tried to put you in touch. nevermind.... I wanted to visit them but they didnt let me to...we went there with a university club...it was already difficult to leave the group in order to visit the Fanari....we had a tight program. Doesnt matter...next time, it wasnt for sure my last visit.

@ missanthropology what I wanted to say is that the people there do not look Greek...no familiar faces....they look like there are not from these regions (Thrace, Europe) but immigrated there..

Oh yes it was great...I just missed the Greek element...it does not exist actually anymore...the only place I heard people talking in Greek was in the Patriarxeio (Fener Rum Patrikhanesi ). Shame on your people desire...the Kurds can hardly replace us...you will realize that sooner or later...if you havent done already..

When I was in the Polis I didnt see one person who looked Greek....most Turks are descendants of native Anatolians (not Greek)...some have central asian features at that...

Thats terrible. Do yourself a favour and learn Greek....your parents are inexcusable. Turkish as first language...for a Romios....a Romios speaking this utterly ugly language as first language...what a shame. I was in Constantinople some months ago...I hate them for what they did to the Fanar. Its a dirty hole full of kurdish people and backward conservative muslims today...the Turks put them there on purpose...
