Touching and men kissing each other like most europeans doing is not allowed in America. its a western northern european vs southern and eastern european thing. I read a study about how generally people from northern Europe and Western Europe/Britain are different in this way. Northern Europeans/Brits tend to have more personal space and less physical contact with each other whilst communicating socially compared to most Europeans from Eastern and Southern Europe, Balkans etc. Also North Europeans and Brits are less animated when they talk compared to the more animated Southern and East Europeans.

Maybe a misunderstanding then.Sorry for posting those pictures of your forefathers doing the "no wrong thing". As for the Arabs their women are covered and i haven't paid attention if the men kiss each other and how many times they do it. But i believe you, you have probably counted and have the right number. ;D

The no kissing relationship is what I had with my father. I can happily say our relationship has been pretty much the coldest possible relationship, yet we both still know that we love eachother yet we do not feel the need to express it in overly effeminate ways. I can actually remember all the times in my life that he actually embraced me: when I was 8 yrs. old on my birthday, when I was 9 and he nearly lost me in a Paris subway and then like three more times.
His whole family from Korca is pretty much like this: laconic/stoic, never speak unless you have something important to say, never show emotion and hide inside of you all of your pain and sadness.
Perfect communists. ;D

I'm 22 right now and till this day I still kiss my parents on the cheek (my father included.) I've never seen it as such a big deal. When I go back home, I kiss my uncles on the cheek when I greet them for the first time and I kiss a few of my male 1st cousins. One of my male cousins, who's father lives in Italy, would constantly kiss his father when he would return back home and would always have his arm around his neck.
My GF on the other hand rarely kisses or gets kissed by her father, kisses usually come on special occasions (i.e. birthdays.) Even her mother is a bit colder towards her and rarely hugs her let alone kisses her on the cheek.
I remember one time a few years ago when I worked for these Greeks and it was New Years Eve, and the boss wanted to kiss me on the cheek. I found that to be weird and he told me it was an "European Thing." IMO, you only kiss family, your significant other and female friends on the cheek. Male acquaintances is a no no.

Talking about kissing....the most weird thing we had in my family was that whenever we celebrated a Christian festival...such as Christmas, Eastern or the name day of my grandfather we used to kiss his hand with touching it with our forehead in the next moment.....I see that still today among Turks...dont know if other Greeks have/had it, too. Most probably only those from Asia minor.
However...I never liked to do it....the last years of his life I refused to do it...you can imagine the reaction of my extremely obidient father (means obidient only towards his father)...

Is kissing common in Albania? My friend from Tepelene had a habit of kissing me three times on the cheeks when saying goodbye ... first I thought its some Orthodox gesture, but then I recalled the guy is a communist essentially. Yes kising is very common is Southern Albania and Tirana (the two regions I am familiar with). However my dad told me that his dad kissed him on his forehead once when he left for college. My dad never expressed his affection growing up but as he gets olders he is becoming more and more affectionate. In Kosova I have noticed, and I am speaking of the traditional way in rural areas, people never kissed. Mothers even are rarely seen kissing their children. My two grandmothers never kissed me for instance ... My friend's dad who was Albanian's envoy to Prishtina made an interesting observation about how Kosovar Albanians are way more reserved than Albanians from Albania. You see some of that amongst Northern Albanians too who are perceived as "colder" than Southerners.

Albanian fathers do not put you on their laps and tell you "I love you" they feed you ,house you ,cure you,put shoes on your feet and yell at you so to set you on the straight path .... That's a fathers love ala-Albanian style .also...since many of you guys are younger ... one day later in life when you have kids you will be in front of that mirror shaving and something will hit you and you will say to yourself "I have become my father" let alone looking like him you will also be using the same lines your father used on you .. when it comes to mothers ...all I can say is Mama always knows best

Any person could feed you and give you the necessities of life, but only a father would love you unconditionally and would want whats best for you.
A "father" could live away from his kids and send back money to support them, but if he's not involved in their lives, what kind of father is he?

I don't have kids yet but I'm going through what you just described recently (at least since I hit thirty). Not necessarily a bad thing. The biggest pleasure for a father must be seeing his son growing up to be like him. I hope I am blessed enough to one day experience that myself.

Yes, Turks kiss on both cheeks, and kiss the hand on forehead for respect for elderly folks. It's always nice to have an affectionate culture It is not strange for 2 girls to walk hand in hand together. In USA, they would call you a Lesbian !
