LOL contact lenses, nobody in my family wears contact lenses and they are almost all green or blue eyes, or very light hazel. Istanbul has a huge Kurdish population thats who you probably saw In Oct 09. Kurds in turkey do not look like the Kurds in Iran or Iraq. They are more mixed wth Arabs I guess thats where the dark eyes and eyebrows and loads of moles come from.

good for you. But that doesnt make the turkish people less non-european. To 99% Turks are dark, much darker than the average European. You might be lighter only because you have many European ancestors, but the great majority of Turks does not. Capito? Im sick of this pathetic propaganda of you two...so ridiculous...you have seen 10 Turks in your life and think you can give us lessons here...unbelievable..

look at yourself Yunanli - we all know you have Ethiopian genes. Turks do not. And on the average Greeks are darker. Capito to you cause you have problems accepting this I bet you haven't even met Turks. I have been going to Turkey for 30 years of my life so keep on making assumptions and dream on!

And Istanbul is not representative of all of Turkey. In many different regions there are blondes and people with blue, green and hazel eyes. Yeah but the same can be said about Kurds, Arabs and Iranians . I'm Kurdish, and the entire side of my mum's family is white skinned, blonde and green-eyed - more Scandinavian looking than actual Scandinavians. Other Kurds from the same Kurdish tribe as my mother generally have white skin, light hair and green or blue eyes, too. And Arab Iraqis...they are very often white, white, white skinned, light-haired, blue-eyed etc. So it's not just something that is narrowed down to Turks. I'm not saying that there aren't a lot of light Turks - I'm just saying that there are clearly more Turks who're NOT green-eyed and blonde. I agree. I just got confused because you first claimed that Kurds look like Iranians, then claimed you could tell them apart . You said it yourself: it all depends on where you're from. Iranians in the South are generally dark-skinned (and funny enough often green-eyed) but those in the North are not necessarily darker than Turks. So you're saying the average Turk is green-eyed and blonde? . LOL contact lenses, nobody in my family wears contact lenses and they are almost all green or blue eyes, or very light hazel. I never said your family wears lenses - plus, just like Istanbul doesn't represent entire Turkey, I'm sure your family doesn't either. As far as I remember, from the photos you posted many years ago, you look quite different from your family members. I don't know if it's because you're more mixed than them? But even if one looks beside you, I think there isn't one specific "look" in your family. You have a beautiful family, mashallah, but even though they have light eyes I still don't think it makes them look particularly European. I know that there're Kurds in Istanbul but I don't believe that every dark person in Istanbul is Kurdish. Actually, I met a looot of Turks, who were definitely Turks, who were way darker than the Kurds (who were definietly Kurds) I met. Also, I've been to the South of Turkey where I didn't see too many green-eyed and blonde people either. Also, out of all the Turkish friends that I have, there's only one family I know that REALLY looks European. I actually posted a picture of my friend who comes from that family, a long time ago. She has ginger hair, freckles, light skin, green eyes...very beautiful girl, mashallah . Besides her, one of my good childhood friends is also look VERY European with his light brown hair and sparkly blue eyes. But the rest are quite dark, and don't look European at all. How do you know they are mixed with Arabs?

Nilo, out of curiosity...since you've been to Greece a couple of times, what do you think of Greeks?

Frosted Flake, I think there's definitely a difference between Greeks and Turks - but the difference doesn't lie in the complexions, they lie in the bone structure. If I were to compare Greeks to anybody, I'd say they ressemble Bulgarians somewhat.

The reason I said they mixed with arabs was due to their location. many Kurdish people that I Know are married to or have marraige in their family to arabs. For instance in Adana, you see Turks married to arabs, or Arabs married to Turks, but the majority is Kurds married to Arabs.
I didn't say every person that you met is Kurdish, but in general tourist areas you will find Kurds a lot more than Turks.
When my Brother in Law came to Turkey he was shocked, and said this about Ankara "so this is where all the white Turks are"
He had been to tourist areas only before this.
In Didim a few years back almost all of the street workers in bars n stuff were kurdish. They come down for the summer months I sat down and spoke with a few at the time. Seems its the trend, In fact due to a few incidents in Izmir Turks and Kurds had ethnic conflict.
Now Just to clarify I myself am olive skinned and have dark eyes people usually think Im latino or something. My whole family have light coloured eyes and light hair. I have this eye colour due to very very old Egyptian history in my family. Also I wouldn't want to have light eyes, I adore dark eyes, .. u know tall dark and handsome etc.... u get a lot of emotion in them.
On another level my family genes are crazy, you get people with 2 dark brown eyes having a kid blonde with blue eyes, or newly my cousin who has jet black hair, her husband the same, having redhead kids. Yes my family is very very mixed.
Greek, Bulgarian, Yoruk Turk, Kurdish, Egyptian, I love it
Therefore I am sure like me many Turks married Arabs and Kurds and became darker too.
I am not saying this is a bad thing though...
By the way Turks are not European, never have been and never will be. they are a huge melting pot of laz, Albanian, many diff slavs, Greek, kurdish, Arab, Celt, etc etc....
In my opinion Turks are beautiful with the variety.

Nilo you maybe right about the Bulgarian thing. Greeks generally look very Balkan...more so than the meditteranean stereotype. It is the bone structure...the facial bone structure.

Novi, you have no proof that the original Turks were Mongoloid looking. And those Mummies found had Turkic clothing not European. Nilo, Sure of course their are light Arabs on occasion. I'm talking about the average person. "So you're saying the average Turk is green-eyed and blonde?" What does your question have to do with what I said? I was talking about skin color. And I disagree, Kurds are darker skinned than Turks. Of course there are exceptions, I am talking about the average. And I know of a lot Turks that have colored eyes, and blonde or light hair just as well. I agree Greeks have different facial features than Turks, that's why the theories that Turks mixed with Greeks doesn't totally make sense, or that Greeks being pure Greeks also cannot be true as well My personal belief is that the indegenous population of Turkey do not look look Greeks from Greece.
