Here is Aleksandar Vucici, the Radical party secretary distancing himself from the Car Lazar Guard, saying indirectly that he fully expects Russia to support the Serbs on resolution 1244 which allows for Serb military & police presence in Kosovo after the UN vetos Kosovo independence under Russian pressure.
If the Radicals are against the Lazar Guard, whose leader was arrested by Kostunica's police chief, then it's because Russia has promised to go all the way.
Just as I predicted 2 years ago.

The radicals are against Lazar's guard because it would be ludicrous for a govt to support any guerrilla group, especially one that creates such a negative image.
The return of Serb forces in Kosova has been brought up before and denied by US and EU. It wont happen; neither will allow it. They control kosova, not Russia.

Wrong, Toskaliku.
The Radicals were urging for war as early as his summer (I was there) and talked about organizing similar paramilitary formations then.
Resolution 1244 of the Daytom Accord guarantees Serb military and police presence in Kosovo and the UN will not recognize Kosovo because of Russia's veto.
That means that KOSOVO IS STILL under Serb sovereignty according to nternational law. If Serb troops, escordted by Russians decide to enter the province, the UN has no jurisdiction to act against them because they are not in violation of international law, nor can NATO claim that they violated the terms of the Dayton Agreement, either.
This is why the deadline for Kosovo independence has been moved forward 6 times. NATO knows that it's bogged down in Afghanistan and NATO's leaders, the US & UK know the're bogged down in Iraq. Do you think this scenario hasn't played itself out in the minds of decision makers in Moscow, Belgrade, Brussels, London and Washington. Serbia just vetoed a potential new, future UN mission to assist NATO in Kosovo - thanks to Russia.

Tomislav Nikolic said yeserday in parliament: "one day the Russian hymn will be played in the Ministry of DEFENSE and their experts will come to help us."
The article ends with an argument that almost errupted into violence between the Liberals, the house speakrer and the Radicals after Nikolic's comment - which ended up causing the session of parliament to take an extended break.
Serbia's Liberals know what's coming.

i really think that if russia sends its troops into kosovo, that NATO will not attack russia, for the simple fact that russia is not someone you can push around. * they are a huge nation, populationwise and landmass * they have a huge, strong and high tech military like the US * they have an abundance of warheads/nukes * they are an economic super power, who supplies america with alot of its oil and gas. if russia says something, its to be taken very seriously, and america knows this very well.
plus if america was to try and stop russia regarding the kosovo issue, america would be made to look stupid, because russia is following the rules of the UN. the ball is in russia's court and not the U.S.

The Americans got beaten by the Vietnamese, who were using Soviet-made weaponry. Your point makes no sense dude. It's all about homeground tactical advantage.

First: Russia has modernized its weapons. Don't you read the news?
And second: al Qaida is beating the Americans with homemade weapons and AK47s.
So you don't make sense.
Third: the US is not insane to order NATO to fire on Russian-backed Serb troops at a time when it's losing in Iraq & Afghanistan and in an instance where Serbs are neither breaking the Dayton Agreement or international law for reasons I explained above.
It won't even come to a war. Russian & Serb troops will simply move into Kosovo in less than 5 years and wait for an Albanian uprising on Serbian territory that they will put down - with NATO just sitting there watching and the UN unable to impose 90s-style sanctions against Serbia because of Russia's seat on the Security Council & because of Resolution 1244 & because of Kosovo's de-facto status. That means that GREATER SERBIA is just around the corner. It all started in Kosovo last time and will start with Kosovo this tim, too. The tide has turned only it's too early for it to be obvious. But the information in this thread proves it inevitable.

This is the Radicals' congradulations to Putin on his election victory which says, in the last paragraph, that Russian-Serb alliance is crucial to the preservation of "Serbian vital national interests". This is from the Serbian Radical Party - which exists, as Seselj says repeatedly in court, exclusively to bring about a Greater Serbia. Taken on their own, none of the facts in this thread mean anything but if you take them together, they show that the tide has turned.

I am against any war recreating itself in any part of Balkans and I am for peaceful entrance of entire Balkans into EU. On the other hand I must say that from a geopolitical standpoint situation appears to have changed dramatically.
West (specially US) is clearly overextended in Iraq and Afghanistan in wars have have become extremely unpopular in US itself and not to mention failing to achieve any of the main objectives with casualties multiplying daily.
EU barely functions as a unit on an economic level much less one is to expect any organized political or military move from them.
Russia, aside from amazing economic recovery that it has displayed insofar has also managed to reassert itself as a political powerhouse that is only going to grow further considering Putin's party was reelected with such a landslide victory (with allies over 2/3 of votes are theirs). Russia is clearly involving itself in the affairs of Kosovo and Serbia more and more openly and this time both Serbia and Russia have international legality behind it.

I dont think this is the case. Russia is too far from Kosovo and the West already has set foot in Kosovo militarily. It's absurd Serbs think that somehow the Russians will forcefully invade Kosovo/ force all Albanian population to flee and settle in Serbs and headon to conflict with American/European troops? What dreams do you guys live on???
America tired of wars wants to finalize the issue of Kosovo . It will look good on their resume. Secondly, EU is in favor of Kosovo indepedence and any unrest in this region directly affects them.
Serbia so far has looked east, completely destroying its relations with EU. Thus, there is a high chance Serbia would be the looser on both cases (Kosovo and EU membership).

If Serbia moves into Kosovo with Russian troops to secure safety of the Serbian Kosovo citizens their is really nothing that can be done until a shot is fired by either side. Serbia is within it's right by law (resolution, etc.) to maintain order within Kosovo.
Tyson mentioned it earlier and is right, they are within there rights to do so and if the UN were to fire upon a Russian backed Serbia they would have just made a huge error.
But I don't believe this would happen either. If Serbia/Russia goes in the troops will just be looking at each because it wouldn't be with the purpose of driving out Kosovo Albanians but to setup peace and stability for not just Albanians but for the Serbs that were driven out as well. Which could lead to there rightful return as well.
And as far as the EU goes...don't join Serbia. The EU is really the United States of Europe, join and loose political, cultural and military power for what? Economic prosperity? Don't do it...there are other ways to increase the economy. And they don't involve letting the US place a military installation on your soil.

That would not be much of setting peace and stability. To Albanians it would be an act of war. An act of hostility.
It's much easier for the remaining Serbs to conform into an indepedent multiethnic Kosovo(as proposed by Ahtisaari) than for this other scenario to happen. Not just much easier but the odds are greater as well, considering UNMIK has control of the territory.
Serbia might be relying too much on Russia, completely disregarding EU or US. That will have consequences. I do believe its much better for Serbia to let Kosovo go and seek faster EU membership than loose both on the long-term. Economic prosperity is more than enough reason for normal citizens to support and leave the decade of nationalism behind. It seems like everybody is in limbo and waiting for something to happen.
