good God man, i spent a week in greece and i never found the illusive pretty greek woman....just a bunch of deep base voiced, shrub-haired, dark leather skinned, 2 pack a day smoking obese obscenities,
the ones that are pretty are absolute corkers but for the most part they're an eyesore.

So? he was kidnapped as a child, later on in his life he came back to his roots. That's a real epic to be proud of. Except the part where he was slaughtering Muslims, you guys have a hard time accepting that part. Was he kidnapped or was he sent hostage to the Porte? There's a difference.

Gjergj Kastrioti was raised, educated and learn oriental strategy at the High Port. He fought successful campaigns for the Ottomans and they gave him the title of Skanderbeg (Alexander the Great) After 1444 when he was fighting against the Ottomans the Pope gave him the title Athlete of the Christ (But he never got the chance to command the Pope s army.) There is no document that describes how much of a devoted Muslim Gjergj was, or any other document that shows Gjergj being baptized and how much of a devoted christian he was. Alexander the Great, Jul Cezari, Pirro of Epir did they also fight for Christianity as well Skanderbeg opponents were not only the Ottomans. It is true he hold their expansion from the East, but he would have done the same thing if any occupation would have came form the west, south or north as well. Skanderbeg opponents were: 1. The Ottomans 2. Venetians 3. Serbian Despotate 4. Anjuins of France With the first three he also signed peace treaties at different times, but all of them stabbed him on the back. He never signed any peace treaty with Anjuins because he was not directly at war with them. Skanderbeg fought Anjuins on behalf of King Alfon and King Ferdinant of Napoli. Kings of Napoli were the only allies (Huniad of Hungary and the Pope as well) that never betrayed Skanderbeg. His own cousin Hamza did betrayed him ( he latter repented when he lost and after Skenderbeg did not take his life but pardoned Hamza), but Kings of Napoli never did such thing. Because Skanderbeg held the Ottoman expansion nowadays Serbs try to associate themselves with him. They try to claim him as own because they consider his mother Serb. When in fact she was form the door of Tribali. In 1504, Marin Barleti mentioned Serbs as opponents of Skenderbeg. Now they also claim they were member of the League of Lisus. Greeks themselves did not have any medieval heroes. They try to claim Byzant as theirs which in fact was not. Byzant was like every other empire composed by multi ethnicity and diversity. Thinking about it: Besides Leonida I cannot recall any other Greek hero. The others are myths or just people who belong to other ethnicity, but lived in Byzantine. Wait a minute Leonida was not a Greek either, he was a Dorian.

One man does not make a nation... he was good for a short time... he held the turks for awhile when their campaigns were concentrated elsewhere. He was at most a thorn on the turks side... when he died, Albanians would never be the same again. I read the articles about him being born christian and being converted to muslim with skepticism... more likely he was born muslim and converted later same way I view albanians ever being originally christian... I know,I know historians say so .... but most of you don't believe in what historians say anyway(Rex laughs out loud about Greek history) especially about Greece... so why would albanian history be any more factual?

I agree with Kanaris' interpretation the facts today say everything, after he died Albania changed forever.
What most of the people here don't realize is if religion never mattered to him why did he convert back? It's very well documented that Skanderbeg put a lot of his faith in the Church (spiritually and institutionally) the most detailed inscriptions are found in Albania's monasteries, direct quotes.
The greater epic/myth would have been if he stayed Muslim and still united the Albanians under the pretext that religion didn't matter "blood-family" above all and maybe start falling back on some ancient claims most Albanians advocate today. Then maybe the Albanians today would have some leverage with Skanderbeg.

Without the Ottomans the Albanians would be a different people totally. They hate this reality which is why they fall back in claiming ancient Greece and Illyrians.
This sort of nationalism is mostly driven by Islam, many Albanians see Kosovo as an islamic success in the heart of Europe (lots of pro-turks-pro-Ottomans there) - they same as how Saudi, Oman, Quatar, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan (and the list goes on) see it.

ahahahah rex jumps from topic to topic because he is wrong half the time He jumps topic to topic just so he can spread more and more propaganda for his young Albanian fans who are more prone to brainwashing than any other ethnic group here. He's not here to convince us - he already knows he has no chance. I have tried more than a few times to put this thread back in topic course ...but to no avail ...so fuk it just for Uz so he understand who the greeks are (not all greeks are like Pyrros) The derived Greek term Sklavinia(i) (Greek: Σκλαβινίαι, Latin: SCLAVINIAE) was used for the Slav settlements (area, territory) which were initially out of Byzantine control and independent. Sclav Sclav\, Sclave \Sclave\, n. Same as Slav. Slav [slahv, slav] Show IPA noun 1. one of*group of peoples in eastern, southeastern, and central Europe, including the Russians and Ruthenians (Eastern Slavs) the Bulgars, Serbs, Croats, Slavonians, Slovenes, etc. (Southern Slavs) and the Poles, Czechs, Moravians, Slovaks, etc. (Western Slavs) adjective 2. of, pertaining to, or characteristic of the Slavs; Slavic. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Origin: 1350–1400; < Medieval Latin Slāvus, variant of Sclāvus, akin to Late Greek Sklábos < a Slavic ethnonym, perhaps originally a name for all Slavic tribes (cf. Slovak, Slovene, Old Russian Slověně an East Slavic tribe); replacing Middle English Sclave < Medieval Latin Sclāvus slave /slāv/ Noun A person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them. Verb Work excessively hard: "slaving away for all those years". Synonyms noun. thrall - helot - bondslave - serf - bondservant - bondman Bottom line : The slaves of the Byzantines and reaching to secede from them, have tried to ensure the land of their rulers, attacking the very territories of the empire.
In Albanian the term Shka/Shki the most simplest form of the same Latin SCLAVINIAE /greek Skla-whatever

"Slav" comes from the Proto-Slavic word "Slovo" meaning "Word".
Either way, I was talking about "Servia" and its' significance with "Servo".
