January 3, 2009 The Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip commenced earlier today, and while with no journalists on the ground details on the attacks are spotty at best, Defense Minister Ehud Barak held a special press conference to clear up some things about the invasion, particularly that it will not be the quick in-and-out invasion some had spoken of. During the conference, Barak assured that the invasion would be neither short nor easy, and with some media outlets reporting as many as 10,000 troops participating in the attack that is likely to mean the death toll will spiral in the coming days. It likely also means that when NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer arrives in Jerusalem next weekend on a visit scheduled in November, he’ll be arriving in the midst of a war. Perhaps more than one. For while experts insist it isn’t a realistic possibility, Barak touched on the rumors that Hezbollah would enter into the war as well, opening a northern front against Israel at a time when most of its forces are deployed in the south attacking the tiny Gaza Strip. Barak insists that the military is prepared for that eventuality as well.news.antiwar.com/2009/01/03/israeli-invasion-of-gaza-wont-be-short-defense-minister-assures/Intifada III in the West Bank is the best way to go if the Palestinians truly want to involve Hezbollah into this latest war.

How are they supposed to do that when they refuse to accept the help offered by Leo’s 2000 HVO veterans? Israel lost the war in Lebanon because it lacked the help of HVO.

Anti-Israeli demonstrations held across Balkans04/01/2009 NICOSIA, Cyprus/ATHENS, Greece/ANKARA, Turkey/ SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)/ SOFIA, Bulgaria -- Demonstrations against Israel's military operation in Gaza occurred in several Balkan countries on Friday (January 2nd) and Saturday, media reported. A largely peaceful protest in Nicosia on Saturday turned violent when some protesters tried to break through a line of riot police blocking the road to the Israeli embassy. In Athens, protesters outside the Israeli embassy threw stones and petrol bombs at police late on Saturday. Riot police used tear gas and sound grenades to disperse them. In Turkey, thousands rallied outside mosques across the country after Friday's prayers. Some burned Israeli and US flags and recited funeral prayers for the victims in Gaza. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey is working on a two-stage plan to put an end to the current tension in Gaza. Erdogan announced the plan at a press conference after a meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Sharm el Sheikh late on Thursday. On Saturday, Erdogan flew to Saudi Arabia as part of Turkey's efforts to help negotiate a cease-fire. Also Friday, Jewish and Muslim leaders in BiH made a joint appeal to the international community to use its influence to stop the bloodshed. Meanwhile Friday, several hundred Bulgarians rallied in the southern town of Madan to protest the Israeli air raids. www.setimes.com/cocoon/setimes/xhtml/en_GB/newssummary/#setimes/newsbriefs/2009/01/04/nb-01As many as 700 000 people protested in Istanbul:www.hurriyet.com.tr/english/domestic/10697812.asp?gid=243

Israel needs to send these people a clear message ... their extremism will not be tolerated. Let them think twice before firing rockets into another country.

1 or 2 Israelis die from Hamas Home made rockets, Israel responds by indiscriminately bombing the living s**t out of Gaza killing hundreds, a tiny walled in zone 6 miles wide and maybe 23 miles long, densly populated by 1.4 milion arabs on top of that they ban all journalists from entering the zone and strictly censor all news reported from the Israeli side, while at the same time the Israeli defense ministry is talking about this military action as if it was a epic battle against a superior enemy Oh and my favorite, Israeli army broadcast warning Palestinian civilians to leave their homes, while at the same time shelling the streets with howitzers. Not saying Israel should do nothing when Hamas is launching their unguided missiles into Israeli settlements, but going all Russian on the Gaza strip is a disproportionate response. But of course, it is election time in Israel, and in the US there is a new administration on the way, no better time to make a move

Israel needs to send these people a clear message ... their extremism will not be tolerated. Let them think twice before firing rockets into another country. As far as I remember it was Israel that broke the cease-fire agreement and even without that it is still Israel that is occupying Palestinian territory and not the other way around. Israel has been holding Gaza under siege for over a year now and it is only natural that the Palestinian resistance fights the Zionist aggressor until the Zionist aggressor removes all of his troops from the occupied territories. WW2 partisans resisted the German occupation, Croats and Bosniaks resisted the Serbian occupation, it is only natural to fight the aggressor that attempts to expand his territory at the cost of your country.

I LOVE how people are seriously using the firing of Qassams as an excuse.
Israel keeps Gaza under an embargo - no problems!! Israel keeps on constructing illegal settlements (that they shouldn't under every accord) in PA territory - who cares!!! Israel destroys Palestinian homes on a daily basis - is that a problem?? Israel builds a wall on Palestinian property including land it's not israeli - that's democracy!!!!
And finally, when Hamas fires some rockets - ZOMGGGGGG TERRORISTS THEY STARTED IT
Even if I don't support Hamas at all and am for Fatah, for all I care, all the IDF can die in Gaza.
