This is to counter the argument that Macedonians today deny their Slavic heritage. On the contrary, we have always celebrated this, in addition to our ancient ancestors. The below was taken from another forum; slavija.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=7892"Today's Macedonians know who they are. They trace their name to the empire of Alexander the Great in the fourth century B.C. They trace their ethnicity to the Slavs...and their faith to the Byzantine Empire that brought them into the Eastern Orthodox Church." National Geographic, Volume 189, No. 3, March 1996; p.124

Me, l'm an Australian whose ancestry comes from the heart of Serbia.

^ Its not Sandzhak, its Rashka. For your info Chento, most of my origins are from Gniljane and Rogovo, Serbia. There is a tiny % of Cherna Gora ancestry. Why is my forum name Novi Pazar? because most of my family reside there today, however l do have many in Mitrovitsa and north from there.

Cherna Gora is in Bulgarian. But then again, Pazar has Torlak ancestry so no surprise there..
He also calls it Vidovden (ie. as it would be said in Bulgarian) as opposed to Vidovdan (ie. as it would be said in Serbian).

ivo mate, are you hinting that Novi is actually half bulgarian, half bosniak from novi pazar? That explains why he can become so fanatical about simple things... He is still in search for his identity and hasn't found it. He desperately holds on to the serbian identity but he is not a part of it... Now am I not a good judge of character? ;D

Pazar himself is an Australian, who doesn't speak Serbian, and the few Serbian words he knows he pronounces as a Bulgarian would.
Historically the Torlaks have identified with the Bulgarian identity more so than they have with the Serbian one, and their language has been identified as a Bulgarian dialect.. the grammar is different from Serbian, but nearly identical to Bulgarian/Macedonian.
What I've heard from some Serbs, is that they look down on Torlaks.. I've heard the same views being expressed about Bulgarians from the Western Outlands.
This is most probably the reason why Pazar hates on Bulgaria and Bulgarians. I think he's trying to prove himself as a pure ethnic Serb, but then again, he seems to be more of an Australian.. who knows.
Not bad at all.

He is fighting the same battle Krivo has fought in the past and Gyros is fighting at the present. Kets hope they win and acquire inner peace and start to love themselves. Your argument makes sense. He doesn't like his own roots so he tries to disassociate himself form it. This can end in three ways: 1-He willingly assimilate into the australian society 2-He accepts his Torlak identity. 3-He fights an ever lasting battle to become a serb, never achieving it. Maybe in the future, he will learn serbian etc. but never actually become serbian... Another thing I have noticed is that none of the serbs here live in serbia and half of them aren't even serbian by blood...
